chasechase's Journal Hello Mr. American Flag!
Wait, Fuck You!!!
xoxo
Hey, its me, Chase! I have a live journal now! Wow. As we all know, Sunday is the very first election for the country of Iraq. I will now state a few facts on why this election is not a good idea and why it should not be done. First, within Iraq there are 18 provinces. Only 14 provinces will be taking part in this election. 4 provinces will not be taking part in this election because of the very high level of civil disorder, the lack of agreement and because these provinces are physically insecure. Within these 4 provinces that will not be taking part in Sunday’s events, there is approximately 40% of Iraq’s population. That is close to half, a little more than a third of Iraq’s population! An election commissioner is one who administers the election process. In order to be an election commissioner or administer in the United States one would have to go through 8-16 hours of training. Also, in order for the upcoming Iraqi election to work there needs to be 150,000 election commissioners. Considering Iraq never put on an election, the percentage of training is low! Only in Louisiana, there are about 3,000 voting locations. The population of Louisiana’s voters is close to 6 million. Within Iraq, which is obviously larger than Louisiana there is a total of 5,500 voting stations. The population of Iraqi voters is close to 27 million. Now lets do a little math, here’s a ratio…. Louisiana – 3,000: 6 million Iraq – 5,500: 27 million Conclusion……NOT GOOD. Because there are fewer places to vote, being compared to the United States, traveling is a big issue that will discourage citizens from voting. Also there will be drastic long lines to be waited in. This will cause frustration, irritation and this factor will defiantly come into play when it comes to people not voting! Recently Iraq ordered 90,000 ballots from the United States. Paper ballots, they are using paper ballots!!! NEED I SAY MORE??? Finally, during the United States election in November ’04 there were 5-7 congressional candidates that we had to vote from. This was hard enough for some of citizens in America. This Sunday, there will be 111 parties on this ballot! This is totally absurd. Each party can nominate up to 275 people for their party. If you do the math, there will be close to 28,000 candidates in this Iraqi election. No one will be able to determine who’s who after this election is said and done. Limiting access to a ballot is defiantly a legitimate concern and people are not using their “smarts” for this election. This election will be totally ridiculous and we, the United States, as well as Iraq would be better off not doing it. Can we say Iraqi Civil War????? I can! Before we went to war in ’02, there was a poll given throughout all of Iraq in which the question was “If you could name anyone in the world as the leader of your country, who would it be?” 87 percent of the country said Osama Bin Laden. In ’04 the same questionnaire was given throughout Iraq. The response was 85% said Osama Bin Laden. Congratulations Bush, you changed 2 percent of the populations mind! If George Bush wasn’t our president, none of this Iraqi election business wouldn’t be going on. So when this gets out of control, what will George Bush do? Kill more people? He seems good at that. |
